Transforming Community Space
We have designed and delivered 12 projects that engaged with a total of 4866 individuals to create colourful community art to transform neglected subways and walls with local residents; and to teach children and their families about responsible citizenship and taking pride in their environment through anti-dog fouling campaigns. Our partners included South Wales Police, Local Councillors, Tidy Towns, Local Schools, Cardiff County Council, Neighbourhood Management, Network Rail and local not-for-profit organisations.
Stakeholders commented:
‘A really outstanding piece of art that really fits this building.’ – Rhodri Morgan, AM
‘The results are… vivid, lasting, and a real asset to the local community.’ – Cllr. Keith Hyde
‘It’s all about that engagement and getting them on board.’ – Paul Crowley, South Wales Police
We have achieved outcomes which have included:
-
Bright, colourful public artwork, co-created with local people, with a positive community theme
-
Restoration of a sense of ownership and respect for local space so that people feel proud of their environment
-
Children learning to be responsible citizens and encouraging parents to clean up after their dogs
Our co-production values are central to this area of work. We believe that ‘if service providers focus on people’s capabilities and skills and engage them effectively then a real and lasting change can be achieved.’
